You need to have finished 30 credits within the Master's Programme in order to be qualified for the Internship. The paperwork should be handed in by April 15 with a job description as an appendix. If you do not have everything in place by then you are advised to apply for courses just to make sure that you have something to do during the fall semester.
The internship period is 20 weeks, and should correspond to the fall semester. This is due to insurance reasons, you will be covered by an insurance from Kammarkollegiet. This insurance covers two weeks before the course starts and two weeks after the course ends. This is the time span you have to follow. Any time outside this cannot be part of the internship agreement with the University. Your job assignement should be of relevance for your studies.
Important Dates 2019
Application to this course is done in two steps:
- 15 April - Deadline for sending in a letter of interest to email@example.com. In the e-mail it must be clear which organisation you have applied to and the preliminary respond date from the organisation. You are allowed to state several organisations. Correspondence from the organisation(s) should be attached to the e-mail.
Note that you do not apply to the course through universityadmissions.se/antagning.se.
- 24 May - Deadline to send in the signed contract together with the appendix which describes your main tasks, to firstname.lastname@example.org. Contracts sent in after that day will not be evaluated and you cannot be admitted, if you don’t send in this second part of the application before this deadline.

You need to be a Master student at the Business Department at Uppsala University and have finished 30 credits in order to be qualified for the Internship. If you apply for exchange studies abroad and accept such a position, you cannot apply for internship.
Application Process and Selection
Before we can allow you into the Internship course we will get in touch with the Internship supervisor to make sure that the assignments are relevant for your education.
In order to pass the course you need to write and send in a report. The report should focus on and discuss the empirical experiences you have had during the Internship in relation to theoretical discussions held at the specialisation courses during the second semester at the Master Programme.

Information to local supervisors and students
At the hosting organisation a local supervisor is appointed responsible for introducing, instructing, following up and supporting the student during the Internship period.
The supervisor and the student will jointly set up a plan for how the Internship position is to be carried out. It is advisable that the student early on is assigned specific tasks in order to get in contact with assignments and other employees at the hosting organisation.
The supervisors skills and experience is key resources during the Internship period. Integration of theory and practice is a process in which the supervisor is supposed to facilitate knowledge and give guidance in order to solve concrete questions and tasks, and also to discuss and share his or her professional experiences. The work at the hosting organisation should be structured so that the student will get the opportunity to participate in a task that involves analysing a project or something similar.
In many cases the Internship position offers the opportunity to formulate a topic for the upcoming Master’s thesis. It is not uncommon that data collection for this thesis can start already during the Internship position in collaboration with the hosting organisation.
The Internship coordinator is responsible for maintaining the contact with the hosting organisation and the student/intern.
The internship tasks can be divided into three parts. These parts can differ in size and impact during the Internship period but they all need to be touched upon during the semester.
The student follows the supervisor to meetings and everyday work in order to see how the work is conducted.
- Daily work:
During the period the student becomes involved in the daily operation at the host organisation. This responsibility often grows gradually during the semester.
- Special task:
The student should have a special task that goes beyond the daily routines at the organisation. It can be anything from investigating the impact of a new EU directive, investigate potential new markets or do customer analysis of a new market segment. It should be a ttask of importance for the organisation but might be categorised as nice to know rather than need to know.
The working hours of the student is supposed to be similar to that of other employees. The student is allowed five days of leave during the time of the Internship position. It is up to the supervisor and the student to decide when these days are to be used.
The hosting organisation is not liable to compensate the student in terms of salary or any other monetary compensation. The student is allowed study allowance, financial aid from the Swedish Board for Study Support. It is also the responsibility of the student to arrange for his or her own accommodation. However, extra money for covering expenses or such things is ok.
Uppsala University has an insurance agreement with the Legal, Financial and Administrative Services Agency - Kammarkollegiet - covering studies or Internships in Sweden and abroad. This insurance is valid for the time period of the Internship position.
All students are expected to hand in a written evaluation report. This report should cover a description of the hosting organisation, the goals/purpose of the position, tasks, resources etc. and a specific description of what work has been conducted during the Internship position. Moreover, an assessment of the Internship in relation to the Master Programme education and the relevance of the Internship is to be included. This part should also contain an assessment of the appropriateness of the hosting organisation for hosting students. This report is to be handed in to the Internship coordinator directly after the Internship position has come to an end.
The local supervisor at the hosting organisation should also hand in an evaluation form to the coordinator.
At the end of the Internship period the hosting organisation is committed to writing a certificate to the student with respect to the time spent at the organisation.
