Aynaz Monazzam - International Business, class of 2020

What was your first job after graduation? With what have you been working since then?

I am a PhD student in the Department of Business Studies of Uppsala University. The project that I am working within is “The role of human cognition, intuitive expertise and IT in strategic and operational decision Making”.

When you look back at your Master’s education, which of the knowledges that you obtained are the most useful for you today in your work?

Contributing to the different group assignments during the courses in Uppsala University helped me to develop my research and teamwork skills such as planning, collaboration, creativity, communication, negotiation, problem-solving, as well as applying critical views to perform in-depth analysis.

What are your strongest memories from your time as a student in Uppsala and at Ekonomikum?

Studying in Uppsala provided me the opportunity to meet and make new friends, learn new skills, and develop my social network through socialization with other students who had different backgrounds in respect to their various culture, priorities, values, and ways of working.

Based on your experience, would you choose the same Programme today, and why?

Yes, I would definitely choose the same programme since it helped me to find my research interest.

What advice would you give to the future Master’s students that will study the same Programme as you did?

Try to be active and participate in group works. This would provide them the opportunity to see the world through different lenses and learn how to communicate with other students in order to achieve the best results.

Victoria Beica - International Business, class of 2021

Tell us about your background and why you chose to study your Master’s at Uppsala University.

I did my Bachelor’s degree in International Business in Kalmar at the School of Business & Economics, Linnaeus University. I chose Uppsala University partly for the acknowledged research within International Business, but also for the unique opportunities to do an internship or to study abroad during one semester of the Programme.

What is your impression of the Master’s Programme so far? What do you appreciate the most about the education?

The courses are provided by very competent and experienced professors, which in turn gives us students great opportunities to learn and acquire highly relevant knowledge during our studies. The Programme overall, has a good balance of theory and practice which enables you to exercise your analytical thinking in connection to your prospect career aspirations.

What are you goals for the future?

At the moment, I am doing an internship as a Management Consultant Intern within Human Capital Strategy. I believe that people are what brings value into business and I hope to be able to work with helping organisations realising that fact. I really enjoy my internship where I get to meet new people, travel a lot and learn new things every day, so my goal for the closest future is to take on a role within consulting in this field.

What suggestions would you like to give other prospective students that are interested in applying for a Master’s Programme in Business Studies at Uppsala University?

Be proactive, ask questions and make sure to manage your time effectively. If you are able to structure your studies, there is a lot of time to explore the enjoyable student life in Uppsala. I believe that there are different ways to get experience, if you can, combine your studies with a job that is of interest for you in the future. And most important thing of all; don’t forget to have fun along the way!
